Joe Montana’s son, Nick, commits to Tulane

Nick Montana, the son of legendary Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Joe Montana, announced Monday that he will play for Tulane next season.

“We are very excited about the addition of Nick to our program,” Tulane football Coach Curtis Johnson said. “He was very high on our list for this year’s class. Nick is a highly intelligent player who has a very accurate arm and has incredible leadership skills, and he is a proven winner. We will have a young group of quarterbacks next season so we made it a priority to bring in an experienced player at that position. We believe Nick will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Montana played for Mt. San Antonio College last season, earning first-team All-Southern California Football Assn. honors after leading the Mounties to a spot in the conference title game.

“I was sold on Tulane after my official visit,” Montana said. “I was very impressed with Coach Johnson and the coaching staff and I really liked the system and the direction the program is heading. I knew Tulane was a great academic school and I look forward to studying for my business degree. I also hope to help lead the team into conference title contention and playing in bowl games. My expectations are very high and I am looking forward to joining the team and getting started this spring.”

He played high school ball at Oaks Christian, leading the team to a 27-1 overall record as a starter, including a CIF championship as a junior. As a senior, he passed for 2,636 yards and 34 touchdowns.
